Boating Holidays in France
With there being such a great number and diversity of rivers and lakes in France and a widely varying landscape, finding the right holiday should not be hard.
In France, cruising along the rivers on a boating trip is a great idea and you can experience the lavish and sometimes peculiar cuisine along with some of the greatest wine in the world that also varies greatly in the different regions.
A boating holiday in France is one of the best ways to get to fully experience the beautiful countryside and architecture of the Renaissance and Roman times. You cannot fail to notice the stunning chateaus and castles along the banks either. In addition to this, the weather is great, generally far better than you can expect on similar holidays in the UK.
There are many different places where you can choose for your boating holiday in France. Some areas are warmer than others and the further south you travel, the more the climate changes. You can choose from a wide variety of varying climates.
You do, however, need a license for travelling on French rivers in a boat and you need to stay on the right hand side of the river just as you do on the roads. Any boat that has a motor engine means that you need to obtain a license, but there are temporary permits available that you can get without too much hassle from the boat rental company that you book with.
These temporary licenses (or la Carte Plaisance) are valid for a set period of time for boats less than fifteen metres long. You can even get licenses for children if they are between the age of 14 and 16 if they are supervised by you.
Many of the guides available now are in English so you can be confident that you will not miss out on all the local attractions on offer. These guides can be found at any regional tourist informational offices and are often given to you by the boat rental company before you start off on your holiday.
Going to the right part of the country is important for getting the best rewards out of your holiday. The East of France is one of the most popular places for boating holidays, full of rivers and canals, diverse landscapes, forests and great beer, wine and food.
